The Menorca Dressage is a different variety of Dressage, that is recognised by the Balearic Islands Equestrian Federation as an other sport discipline. It has its own specific rules to regulate the competitions developed by this modality. It is a riding modality with short stirrups characterised because of its way of holding the reins only with the left hand. It is also distinguished by its style of clothing and the horse and the rider equipment.
The Menorca Dressage has its origins in the popular celebrations in Minorca. It started to be worked and shown in public without the limits of the festivities, in the 70′s. It was officially regulated in the 80′s when its first standing order was written. Then the first competitions began.
The so-called natural gaits: walk, trot and gallop are recognised in the Menorca Dressage. Moreover, a set of characteristic figures such as the “bot” and the Minorcan movements are known in this equestrian discipline.
